The new season features 10 productions. I will be starting my opera club on November 1, although there are two productions in October before I return to Florida, Verdi’s Macbeth and Mozart’s the Marriage of Figaro. I will advise on details for each Saturday, but generally we will meet at my home at 11:00AM and after my presentation we will head to the Pointe Orlando movie theatre for the opera. Please refer all question to Riki Turofsky.

OPERA: Rossini’s La Donna del Lago—Met Premiere
Saturday, March 14th, 12:55PM at Orlando Pointe Movie Theater
Bel canto superstars Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez join forces for this Rossini showcase of vocal virtuosity, set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a beloved novel by Sir Walter Scott. DiDonato is the “lady of the lake” of the title, and Flórez is the king who relentlessly pursues her, their vocal fireworks embellishing the romantic plot in this Met premiere production conducted by Michele Mariotti. Approximate running time 3:30

Riki Turofsky will host a pre-opera review.  Please contact Riki Turofsky for additional details as needed.

Howey Book Club 2014-2015 A Fairy Tale by Jonas T. Bengtsson
Monday, April 6th

The unsolved murder of former Swedish Prime Minister, Olaf Palme, shot while leaving a movie theatre in downtown Stockholm 28 years ago, remains an unhealed wound on the Scandinavian psyche.  How could such a good leader be so callously killed and how can the perpetrator(s) still be at large?....

OPERA: Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana /
Leoncavallo's Pagliacci—New Production
Saturday, April 25th, 12:30PM at Orlando Pointe Movie Theater

Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian village. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci. Rae Smith (War Horse) has designed the moodily atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria, which transforms to a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cav) and Patricia Racette (Pag) sing the unlucky heroines, and Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium. Approximate running time 3:30

Riki Turofsky will host a pre-opera review.  Please contact Riki Turofsky for additional details as needed.
